I'm getting a "Pin 8 ground, MSFT error" message when turning on the 570A or 575A IC tester

2019-12-23

There are two possible causes for this error to happen.  First, turn off the device and please check to make sure there are no small particles or debris that are stuck or touching any of the pins of the input socket.  If so, please clean it carefully or use dust remover to clear out the particles.  Now, turn on the device and verify if the error still occurs during its diagnostic self test.  If the error persists, then most likely the inputs might have been damaged already, in which case please return to B&K Precision for servicing.  This error happens if the inputs are accidentally shorted during an IC test.  This is possible because during an IC test, charges are sent across various pins to test the IC.  If an IC chip was not placed correctly BEFORE running a test or if it was placed on the socket while the test is active, a discharge could be sent across, thus shorting the inputs.  This is also possible if users are using the AK57X software and wrong pins were assigned when creating a custom library test, thus having a potential of inputs getting shorted by the discharge during IC testing.
