I cannot remotely control my 408X series function generator in hyperterminal

The 408X series function generators use Line Feeds (LF) as the termination character.  It does not use Carriage Return (CR) or combination of both.  However in hyperterminal, when you press enter to send a command, it automatically includes a CR character.  This will cause the instrument to not respond to queries or setting commands correctly.  In order to send and receive successfully, first make sure that the ASCII setup in hyperterminal is configured correctly so that you can see the characters you type.  Next, type the command you would like to send, for example, *IDN? .  Instead of pressing Enter to send the command, hold down Ctrl + Enter to send the command.  Now the instrument ID information should be returned on the next line.
