How to connect IT-E131 adapter to PLC

For users who have any of the applicable models listed above and would like to interface in their own automated or test system with a PLC instrument/device, some specific setup is required.  Refer to below diagram:

Power to drive the IT-E131 communication is drawn from the TTL interface output port DB9 connector from the instrument for any of the applicable models listed above.  Unfortunately, not enough power is provided when interfacing with a PLC device, and therefore an external DC 12V power source is necessary if users desire to use a PLC for controlling the instrument. Here are some notes about the setup in the illustration above:

• Pin assignments are: Pin 2: RXD , Pin 3: TXD.
• In the configuration, pin 2 and 3 must be crossed between IT-E131 and PLC device.
• The 12V is an external 12VDC power source.  The positive terminal is connected to Pin4 of IT-E131 cable, while negative terminal connects to pin 5.
• All other pins (1, 6, 7, 8, 9) are not used.
